Spring Appeal: Do you see what I see? Help bring a new MRI to CMH.

I’m not speaking to you today as Dr. Winnie Lee — Chief of Staff and Chief of Diagnostic Imaging — at Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) but as a Community member — as a neighbour, a wife, and a mother raising children in Cambridge.

It’s in all those roles that I’m asking you to help the Community that you and I care about so much by making sure we have the latest diagnostic technology at CMH and in Cambridge. I want you to see what I see.

We all have come to expect the best care possible from Cambridge Memorial Hospital and we all deserve it! You have always been part of the vision at CMH, coming together to make CMH better for everyone is part of the culture of where we all call home, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of it. Thank you! You have supported us over the last three years as our teams worked tirelessly to care for patients during the Pandemic. Despite restrictions and
constantly changing rules for safe healthcare, we stayed focused on always putting patients first. And now, the time has come to assess what CMH needs to be ready for the future. That’s right, if the Pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we must be ready to act!

As a radiologist, I have seen this first-hand. But I want you to see what I see… that the MRI images are key to making a diagnosis, to determining the course of treatment, and contributing to the best outcomes for our patients. And at CMH, that patient may be your neighbour, a friend, a family member, or you.

Dr. Winnie Lee

Our community needs a new MRI. The MRI that my daughter calls a “donut” is one of the most powerful pieces of equipment we have at CMH and for our doctors, it brings answers. It brings the answers that gives a path forward for our patients. As a radiologist, I have seen this first-hand. But I want you to see what I see… that the MRI images are key to making a diagnosis, to determining the course of treatment, and contributing to the best outcomes for our patients. And at CMH, that patient may be your neighbour, a friend, a family member, or you.

Providing the best outcomes for our patients right here in Cambridge not only requires doctors and specialists with expertise but having the tools for them to care for us. Our medical Community in Cambridge depends on the MRI. It’s true, an MRI is just a machine, but the images that it provides can change a life! And that’s why having an MRI right here at home is so important. Did you know that the purchase of hospital equipment like the MRI machine is 100% funded by our community? And in 2012, donors generously came together and purchased our very first MRI machine. That purchase helped us bring specialists in fields like neurology and oncology to Cambridge, expert physicians who cannot treat their patients without MRI scans. The MRI has brought a new level of care to our local area — and we want to continue to do this! It has been 11 years since our last MRI and technology has changed. We want the best equipment for our patients. We want to be sure the MRI is there for us when we need it. At least 9000 times a year, we have been there for those that needed an MRI. And that need is growing. But I want you to see what I see…that we can make a difference — we can help bring a new MRI that provides high quality images more quickly, so patients can get their diagnosis or start their treatment and have the best care right in Cambridge. It’s what our community deserves. It’s what you deserve.

Thank you for listening. Diagnostic imaging is at the core of patient care — it touches every part of medicine and providing the best care possible is at the core of what we do here at CMH. Thank you for keeping it close to home.

Dr. Winnie Lee
