Together, We Make It Possible- A note from Patrick Gaskin, CMH President & CEO

I hope you and your family are safe and well.

At this time each year, I normally reflect on past months and share exciting news of what all of us at Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) are looking forward to in the months ahead. This year has been a year like no other.

In January 2020 we came together to celebrate the opening of our brand new patient care wing. It was a time of community pride and celebration. . . it was incredible.

When our new wing opened we didn’t realize how important it would be in helping us manage the challenges that lay ahead for our hospital and community. Equipped with the latest technology, the expansion of our Emergency, ICU, Medicine, Mental Health services and Labour and Delivery departments, allowed CMH to focus on infection control and the safety and comfort of our patients at all times. These enhancements have helped us navigate our new circumstances. Life before the pandemic now seems like a distant memory.

From urgently needed specialized beds to life-saving diagnostic machines, hospital equipment is 100% funded by donors like you and me.

PATRICK GASKIN, CMH PRESIDENT & CEO

New equipment, technology and committed staff have been here and will continue to be here to serve you. Today, I’m asking you once again, to be here for us. From urgently needed specialized beds to life-saving diagnostic machines, hospital equipment is 100% funded by donors like you and me.

As a CMH supporter, you understand how important patient comfort and healing is. Right now, you can deliver comfort by supporting the purchase of equipment like cribs for babies, stretchers for patient transport, and replacement beds for our Medicine and Mental Health Programs.

Can I count on you to make a donation today to enhance patient comfort at Cambridge Memorial?

When I walk through the bridge linking our new wing to the older sections of our hospital, I realize that this bridge is a symbol of how CMH will continue to serve our community for generations to come. This bridge links our old wings with our new Wing A and represents the support we have received from our community in the past, with what will be needed to serve patients in the future.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Kim, a patient and proud CMH champion. Kim’s journey of care started in the original section of the hospital and continued into our new wing. Her care included a cancer diagnosis, treatment, breast reconstruction surgery, emergency department visits, overnight stays and routine follow-up. Kim shared that she was able to work through her treatments because equipment and expertise were available right here at CMH. She also emphasized how important it was to see welcoming, familiar faces every time she came to the hospital. As I spoke with Kim, I was reminded of how important simple things like patient comfort and sense of belonging are – to healing.

As we deal with new challenges, we also look ahead with optimism. Our hope is to continue offering as many non-emergency services as possible and to provide timely care, close to home. For example, because of our generous community, CMH is now able to provide Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy for ICU patients requiring short-term dialysis as part of their intensive care. This avoids critical transfers for some of our most vulnerable patients. We have also started seeing patients as part of our new Liver Health Clinic. Again, community donations were the catalyst for the expansion of this Clinic.

Renovations to Wing B have started and we will once again turn to our community for help to purchase new and replacement equipment. Show your support by donating today or you can become a monthly donor, providing a reliable source of funding for our highest priority needs.

This is your hospital. Invest in the health of family and friends with a donation to Cambridge Memorial Hospital today.

Together, we will get through this. Together, we make it possible.

Sincerely,

Patrick Gaskin President and CEO
