Cambridge, Ontario – The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Golden Horseshoe has recently honoured Angelo Loberto as an award recipient at last Friday’s Philanthropy Day Awards in Hamilton. Angelo was recognized as Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year for his commitment as a Board member of Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Board member of Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation, and CMHF Ambassador.
Lisa Short, Executive Director of the CMH Foundation was incredibly pleased to see AFP recognize the impact that Angelo’s volunteer leadership has had on our Hospital and Community, “Angelo was instrumental in rallying Community and government support for our present Capital Redevelopment Project and the fundraising campaigns necessary to complete it. His dedicated support of CMH both from a governance perspective and philanthropically has inspired our Community to engage with their local Hospital. For that, we are extremely grateful. We were so proud to celebrate all that Angelo has accomplished over 16 years for our Hospital on National Philanthropy Day.”
National Philanthropy Day, occurring November 15th each year, is set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to our lives, our communities, and our world.
AFP Golden Horseshoe receives nominations from throughout Southwestern Ontario and each year the roster of qualified nominees is always superb. The nominating organization is required to present specific examples of the leadership qualities and personal commitment of the candidate and illustrate their ability to motivate and recruit others and meet fundraising goals. Awards are presented in only six categories, with several of those honouring groups or corporations.
When asked what motivates his volunteering, Angelo replied, “we’ve all witnessed how important access to local healthcare is. Like many, my family needed care and CMH was here to help and continues to support our health. In turn, I feel the need to support the physicians and staff at CMH, and way I can contribute best is by volunteering. I feel privileged to have been a part of both Boards during such a critical time in our Hospital’s redevelopment.”
The Hospital and Foundation teams, and countless Board peers, congratulate Angelo on this incredible honour and on his long service of volunteer governance and fundraising. His perseverance for change and investment have made great things possible for community healthcare, and created a future ready Hospital.
