After an extensive search process, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Asim Masood has accepted the position of Chief of Staff and Vice President, Medical Affairs, effective September 15.
Dr. Masood is excited to be joining our organization. This is a homecoming of sorts for him as he comes from the Guelph area. Professionally, he was seeking an opportunity at a health care facility that is well connected to its community, nimble and has demonstrated a strong commitment to medical quality. He sees so much potential in CMH noting that it has a collaborative spirit, strong leadership team and the ability to make quick decisions. He strongly believes that together, we will build on the hospital’s many achievements, specifically citing our recent Accreditation with Exemplary Standing, our relentless focus on the patient experience and the hospital’s track record of having 10 years of balanced budgets.
Dr. Masood, an Emergency Medicine Physician, was most recently the Chief Medical Information Officer at William Osler Health System. Throughout his tenure at Osler, he has held progressive leadership roles including, Chief Medical Information Officer; Executive Medical Director, Medical Affairs and Physician Development; and Deputy Chief of Staff. With over a decade of valuable experience focusing on physician governance, evaluation and health human resources planning, he delivered on his mandate to ensure that clinicians are equipped with the appropriate decision-making tools so they can better manage care.
Asim is a visionary, collaborative, data-driven leader with a successful track record of health system leadership at the national, provincial and local levels. For the last decade, he has had a keen interest in health informatics and recognizes the opportunities for technology to transform patient care. We believe his experience will be a definite advantage for us as we evaluate options for enhancing the hospital’s health information system.
Dr. Masood’s attraction to tackling challenges does not abate in his personal time. He regularly trains for marathons and iron man competitions, while pushing himself take on new experiences. He is community focused with a deep seated belief that giving back and lifting up those in need are his duty – one that has not only enhanced the communities he has lived in but also brought him to share his knowledge to international assignments in Ethiopia and other locales.
Dr. Masood obtained his Medical Degree from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Business Administration from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph. Additionally, Dr. Masood has his Emergency Medicine CCFP (EM) and completed the Physician Leadership Development Program from the Schulich School of Business.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Asim Masood in his new role as Chief of Staff and Vice President, Medical Affairs at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Winnie Lee for her tremendous work as interim Chief of Staff. She went beyond the expected bridging duties needed to maintain this important executive role. Winnie’s resourcefulness, sense of collaboration and strong communication provided us with calm, insightful leadership when navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Lee resumes her leadership roles in Diagnostic Imaging and Deputy Chief of Staff.
