After a rewarding career teaching grades 7 & 8 for the Waterloo Region District School Board, Kate retired in 2008. She has lived her entire life in North Dumfries Township and has been involved with many community organizations.
Kate has been an active member of Knox United Church in Ayr for more than 50 years. At present, she is Secretary of the Waterloo District Women’s Institute and President of the New Dundee Women’s Institute. Kate is Chair of the Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation (KWCF) Plowing Match 1995 & 2012 Grants Committee. She was an Executive member of both these regional events and Chair of the World Plowing Organization Hospitality Committee, when Canada hosted this event in 2003. Kate has also served several years as a Director on the Waterloo Region Hall of Fame Board.
Kate co-chaired the WeCareCMH North Dumfries Campaign. This small group of volunteers managed to raise over $2.5 M over a five year commitment. As recognition for this effort, this North Dumfries Team won the Chamber of Commerce Cambridge & North Dumfries Community Award for “Group of the Year” in 2018. During the same year, Kate was also awarded the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) National Philanthropy Award for the Golden Triangle ‘Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser’.
Kate and her husband Reg have lived on a farm near Ayr for 50 years. They have 4 adult children and 6 grandchildren. Cambridge Memorial Hospital has always been their family hospital.
Kate is now an active Director on the CMHF Board and considers it an honour to be part of this exceptional team.
