David Coelho for Portuguese Heritage Month

Proud of His Portuguese Roots: Read CMHF Board Member, David Coelho’s Story

For David, being Portuguese is a feeling— the fresh Atlantic breeze, the smell of bacalhau (salted cod fish) in the kitchen, and the joy of taking his own kids to Santa Maria in the Azores, where his parents were born and raised.

As we celebrate Portuguese Heritage Month this June, read David’s story on how his core Portuguese values passed down by parents: hard work, kindness, family, and helping others, shaped his journey.

We would also like to thank the Portuguese Community for always supporting their local Hospital. Thanks to our longstanding donors; the Amigas Foundation, Portuguese Club, Oriental Sports Club for their fundraising efforts and donations to CMH.

You Made it Happen – Thank You!

Thanks to our incredible Sponsors, this year’s CMH Golf Classic was our most successful yet! Your connections with golfers and sponsors made a big impact.

Held on June 5 at the iconic Galt Country Club, the event brought together 105 golfers and raised over $70,000 to support CMH. These funds will bring essential equipment to our Hospital, ensuring healthcare stays close to home.

Sara Walk to Paris 2025

A Walk in Support of Local Healthcare

A huge thank you to CMH Board member Sara Alvarado for organizing the third Walk to Paris in support of CMH.

We also want to thank everyone who attended and donated, including Hospital and Foundation Board members, volunteers, and Community supporters. We’re proud to share that this Walk raised over $8,000 that will help bring priority equipment to CMH.

Indigenous History and Pride Month at CMH

Throughout June our CMH staff have been reflecting and taking action to reinforce our promise to foster an inclusive and supportive healthcare environment for everyone.

CMH’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department organized many activities and events to help broaden our staff’s understanding of the communities we serve: Listen, Explore, Add, Read and Notice (L.E.A.R.N) challenge, weekly myth busters, and the launch of a lunch and learn series, starting with Understanding Indigenous Perspectives.

CMH also hosted a Smudging Ceremony yesterday. Facilitated by the Hospital’s Indigenous Patient Navigator, Ivy Saille, this event focused on understanding traditional Indigenous healing practices and its significance.
