CMH’s Staff Innovation Fund is a partnership between the CMH Board and CMH Foundation that enables our staff to embrace inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking. This program supports innovative ideas in the Hospital and helps staff develop and implement their innovative solutions to address ongoing healthcare challenges and promote health equity. Our aim is to integrate advanced technologies and turn research into actionable healthcare improvements at CMH.

Optimizing Operating Room Performance >
Operating Rooms are critical hospital resources and many facilities struggle with optimizing their scheduling and room utilization. More efficient scheduling can lead to an increased number of surgeries performed (throughput) and reduced patient wait-times for surgical procedures.

Streamlining Patient Flow >
Patient Registration sees 140-170 patients daily. A manual registration process relying on paper-based tracking and check-in for patients, resulted in delays, errors and frustration among staff and negative patient experiences in the past. CMH’s innovative team came up with a plan to implement a check-in system at Patient Registration which has helped make the process faster and improve the Hospital experience for both patients and staff.

Improving Patient Satisfaction with CBORD Patient App for Food Selection >
At CMH, we implemented the CBORD application to enhance the patient experience and decrease food waste. The CBORD application allows patients to choose their meals daily through an App.

Enhancing CPR Education >
Standard training programs for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can have its challenges, including using a defibrillator most efficiently, and analyzing data and performance consistently. CMH’s solution was to develop a novel training approach to enhance staff CPR performance.

Streamlining Lab Specimen Tracking >
Our current laboratory tracking system monitors patient movement from registration to discharge and is used by lab staff to estimate specimen readiness based on surgery times rather than real-time notification.
When staff identified a more efficient way to collect and manage specimens that can reduce workflow disruption and delays, CMH developed and implemented an innovative specimen tracking system that integrates seamlessly with the current patient tracking system.

CMH’s Staff Innovation Fund
Many of the projects listed above have been sponsored by the Staff Innovation Fund. The CMH Innovation Fund is a partnership between the CMH Board and CMH Foundation. This program sponsors 10 staff-led projects each year that align with one or more of the Hospital’s five strategic pillars.
The Innovation Fund has been encouraging and enabling staff to pursue quality improvement projects that improve their program’s efficiency and quality, with an objective to improve patient care and advance health equity.
