Community Report 2024-25

This year has been a remarkable journey for CMH and healthcare in our Community. The opening of our Wing B marks a milestone we are incredibly proud of, transforming CMH into the most technologically advanced Hospital in Waterloo Region.
This achievement would not have been possible without our Champions, our dedicated staff, physicians, and nurses who made the seamless transition to the new spaces, and of course, our generous donors who believed in the Capital Redevelopment Project and made it a reality for everyone in our Community.
Woven throughout this report, you will see the power of collaboration with our Community. Whether it was your patience as we developed our new Wing or your support in raising funds for priority equipment— you have truly helped make CMH Future Ready.
Earlier this year, the Waterloo Region Health Network (WRHN) was announced as the name of the merged Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital. We are happy to see the local health system grow in a collaborative manner. We remain focused on growing services and strengthening partnerships with all of our local providers. CMH services remain undisrupted, and our Foundation will continue to serve donors across the Region.
Together, we will continue to keep Future Ready healthcare close to home.

Welcome to the most technologically advanced Hospital in Waterloo Region
In January, Cambridge Memorial Hospital officially opened our doors to the completely renovated patient care area — Wing B.
This was a major step forward in local healthcare and marks the completion of the largest healthcare investment in the history of Cambridge and North Dumfries.

The ripple effect of community support
Dr. Donna Kolyn, General Surgeon, delivered an inspiring keynote at our Celebration of Champions donor event last November, titled The Ripple Effect. She highlighted CMH’s advanced breast reconstruction program and cutting-edge procedures that are leading the way in women’s health.
Dr. Kolyn also talked about donor support and how it creates a ripple that extends far beyond individual patients, it helps build a strong local Hospital for generations to come.
Just a few months later, we raised over $680,000 at the CMHReveal gala for our new mammography unit. Thanks to our generous donors and sponsors who made magic happen that night! We look forward to working with our new CaringLEAD sponsor and local realtor, Faisal Susiwala to continue to grow this event. His commitment to CMH is rooted in a deep understanding of the Hospital’s role in the Community’s health.

Enhancing the patient experience with AI
Imagine visiting CMH with a medical concern. You sit down with your physician, who listens to your symptoms carefully and asks relevant questions. Behind the scenes however, something is happening; as your physician focuses on your care, a digital assistant is quietly drafting your conversation into clinical notes for the medical team to assess the next steps in your care journey.
This innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool is being trialed in our Emergency Department with the patient’s consent. Early results show it is already making a significant impact on both patient care and operational efficiency.
