Meet Shweta, a new mom who recently gave birth at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Shweta and her newborn are featured in our Birth Celebration appeal, where families and loved ones can donate to the hospital to celebrate and cherish this special moment. Look for these posters in the Obstetrics Department or view it online here.
Becoming first-time parents can be daunting. For Shweta and her spouse Chirag, starting a family in a new country, added to the feelings of anxiety and uncertainty as they navigated through the healthcare system.
Things got a little more complicated for Shweta when she had to be transferred from Guelph General to CMH unexpectedly. But it was during her emergency C-section at CMH that she experienced the deep impact of compassionate care. Despite her initial fears, the medical team made Shweta feel supported every step of the way. “They listened to my concerns and stayed by my side until I was discharged.”
One special moment Shweta will never forget was when one of the nurses gifted her newborn a tiny hat. “It was a thoughtful gift and a beautiful first memory with my baby.” Shweta recalls. “I’ll never forget how the nurse also comforted me during my contractions and helped me stay calm.”
She thanks all CMH donors who are helping bring equipment that made her care possible. “From the advanced medical tools to the small, comforting touches, every part of my experience was touched by generosity,” she added.
Our state-of-the-art dedicated surgical birthing OR and 6 new labour rooms, part of the Wing A addition, have already supported many moms like Shweta in welcoming their babies safely and comfortably.

Shweta’s story highlights the power of efficient, compassionate care close to home and its lasting impact on lives, especially new beginnings. Her heartfelt gratitude underscores the importance of local healthcare- made possible by your support.
