Volunteer Makes Historic $320,000 Gift to CMH

Loberto Family Inspired by ‘Everyday Impact’ of Spotlight Comfort & Care

Cambridge, Ontario – A family from Cambridge has made the largest gift to date to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Comfort & Care Spotlight. This generous investment brings the campaign closer to its $4M goal. The donation comes from long-time donors and volunteers Angelo and Monica Loberto, whose previous gifts have been honoured through several named spaces at CMH.

Spotlight Comfort and Care

To keep Cambridge Memorial Hospital future ready for the Community, ongoing investment in new and replacement equipment is essential. These items—such as stretchers, treatment chairs, vital signs monitors, portable x-ray units, and specialized birthing beds—are critical to supporting patient comfort and care throughout their journey at CMH. These equipment helps patients get where they need to go, make services smoother, and monitor vital health information during procedures and stays. Over the next three years, CMH will need $4 million to ensure these essential items are in place. All equipment is purchased through the generous support of the community, helping ensure CMH can continue providing the best care possible close to home.

When asked about the motivation behind their new investment towards Comfort and Care, Angelo shared, “We’ve all witnessed how important everyday essentials can be during a stay in Hospital. Like many, my family needed care and CMH was here to help. Their care was supported by beds, stretchers, monitors, and wheelchairs- items vital to all departments that are not funded by operating dollars or Ministry funding. We feel grateful to be in a position to help with some of the items for Spotlight Comfort & Care.”

Monica echoed his sentiments, adding, “We hope our donation encourages others to join us in giving back. At some point, everyone in the community will need to visit CMH – and when they do, they deserve to have the best equipment possible.”

The Lobertos’ inspiration for giving began years ago when they received exceptional care during the birth of their daughters. Since then, their experience with CMH, including visits to the Emergency Department and other interactions with CMH have left a lasting impression on the family. Angelo highlights the unmatched compassion and expertise of CMH staff and the Hospital’s future ready equipment that allows physicians and nurses to deliver their best work. To ensure this continued excellence, the Lobertos made their first significant gift to the Hospital in 2011 to fund CMH’s first MRI.

Last February, the Lobertos contributed again by investing towards the next MRI for CMH. They made this gift by raising their hands during the Fund-A-Need auction at CMHReveal event, supporting the Foundation’s Spotlight MRI campaign. A key moment of the evening’s success was a matching challenge issued by the Lobertos to other guests. By the end of the night, their passion and giving inspired others to step forward to close the gap, helping CMH reach its $5 million goal for the MRI.

This year’s CMHReveal gala will take place on February 21 at Tapestry Hall, raising funds for a new Mammography Unit.

Community Impact and Volunteerism

The Lobertos are more than just Community philanthropists, they also have a long history of volunteering at CMH. Just a few months ago, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Golden Horseshoe recognized Angelo Loberto as the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year for his past commitments as a Board member of Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Board member of Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation, and CMHF Ambassador. Monica Loberto also volunteers with the CMH Volunteer Association, and their daughters have contributed their time and have frequently collected donations for CMH.

Lisa Short, Executive Director of the CMH Foundation noted the profound impact of Loberto family on our Hospital and Community. “Angelo and Monica believe in building the best Community healthcare possible at CMH. Their philanthropic investments have inspired our Community to engage with their local Hospital and continue to provide for our future ready needs. We are extremely grateful for their belief and commitment. CMH Foundation is thrilled to celebrate this newest gift with them and are proud to name the Diagnostic Imaging & Fracture Clinic, Waiting Area in their family’s honour.”

During the Community Open House on January 10, the Foundation celebrated with 22 of the many families who have named spaces in the newly opened Wing B, representing donations made since 2014.
