Why 2019 will be a milestone year at Cambridge Memorial Hospital

2019 promises to be a milestone year at Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) as we eagerly look forward to moving into our new wing and continuing to deliver the exceptional services our community deserves.

I thank you for your continued patience and support as our hospital undergoes a massive transformation.

When the WeCareCMH Campaign kicked off, our goal to raise $10.5 million to furnish the new wing seemed so far away. Today, through the incredible generosity of our community, we only need $4.4 million to complete our hospital’s redevelopment. With your help, this finish line is in sight.

It’s important to remember that community donations fund 100% of all equipment in our hospital. I invite you to continue your commitment in this final stretch with a donation to the WeCareCMH Campaign today. Your gift will help purchase the necessary equipment for our new wing so that we can deliver outstanding care close to home, well into the future.

Our new 250,000 sq. ft. patient care wing includes the following services:

Emergency Department – Doubles in size with 40 treatment areas including specialty areas for urology, fractures, ophthalmology and a mental health sub-unit complete with its own waiting room.

Intensive Care Unit – 12 beds dedicated for providing care to our most seriously ill patients.

Mental Health Unit – 25 beds, a Day Hospital and 2 terraces that bring in natural light to promote overall well-being and sightlines that overlook the Grand River and Cambridge’s natural beauty.

Birthing Unit – Seven large, new birthing suites located close to operating rooms, minimizing risks to mother and baby.

Operating Rooms – Nine large operating rooms, including a dedicated one for emergency c-sections, with state of the art technologies that include shadow-less lighting, advanced communications, the latest infection control systems and the capacity to deliver minimally-invasive procedures.

Inpatient Rooms – Large, comfortable rooms with floor to ceiling windows and improved safety features. Almost 80% of inpatient rooms will be single occupancy to enhance privacy and infection control. When the entire project is finished, CMH will have 54 more beds for a total of 166 acute care beds and 31 rehabilitation beds.

Our expansion isn’t just about a beautiful new building. It’s about reaching our vision to provide exceptional healthcare by exceptional people.

Recently, I received a letter from a woman whose mother had been cared for by several different teams at CMH. She wanted me to know about the amazing care her mom received in our hospital and she named the many doctors, nurses, volunteers and care coordinators involved.

“You made our family feel that our mom’s recovery and care was the most important thing you had to do every day while she was in your hospital.”

As I reflect on my tenth year as President and CEO of CMH,  I am still very grateful for these kind words of appreciation and am incredibly proud to know our staff, physicians and volunteers share the patient-first values that drive our hospital.

Caring is at the core of our values. When you support CMH, you become a partner in our commitment to providing care. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Patrick Gaskin
