Celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Week

Thank you CMH Volunteers!
Volunteers are the heart of the compassionate care we provide at CMH. Your dedication and kind service makes a difference in the community every day.
Read some inspiring stories shared by CMH Volunteers below.

Drew Black, CMH Volunteer
People don’t come to the hospital because
they want to be there. So, I try to help them feel
relaxed and supported- even if just during our
walk to their destination. I can see that visitors
genuinely appreciate our support, and it is
very fulfilling.

Bernardo Recine, CMHF Board Member
I was born at CMH and it is a great honor to be on the
Board of Directors. With all the equipment needs in
our local hospital, I want to do as much as possible
to optimize investment in CMH and keep
care close to home. I believe my efforts will impact a
place we will all need at some point in our lives.

Eric Bergeron, CMHF Board Member
I chose to volunteer as a the Foundation Board
member because I believe it is important for the
people of Cambridge & North Dumfries to keep
exceptional healthcare right here in our community.
I pride myself in advocating for the wonderful work
that the Foundation staff does for our local hospital.

Yvonne Kaine, CMH Volunteer
Shopping for the gift shop is a highlight for me.
But it’s also the people – interacting with them,
supporting them, helping uplift their mood – that
really makes my volunteering here special. I always
try to have fun during my shifts.

Sara Alvarado, CMH Board Member
Sara is an exceptional leader and volunteer whose work has made a significant impact on CMH, the Foundation and our broader community.
As part of the CMH Board, the Resources Committee and Digital Health Committee, Sara has provided thoughtful leadership to the hospital and helped guide the team through major milestones and challenges. She also hosts the annual Walk from Cambridge that brings together community members to walk and raise funds for equipment needed at CMH.
We are grateful for the many ways she gives her time and expertise to make a difference.
Messages from the Community
It always changes my groove when I hear someone playing the piano in the lobby, no matter what genre. The young volunteer pianist is is exceptionally talented, truly gifted. A nice change from the usual.

I went to CMH for the very first time recently. From the first moment I stepped foot in the hospital, I was greeted by a friendly volunteer who directed me on where to check in for my surgery. At Check-in, Surgery, OR and other areas around the hospital, I was treated by a team of friendly, caring, and wonderful volunteers and staff. Keep up the incredible job!

I wanted to say a big thank you to Thomas – front desk volunteer who was so kind to take time to show us how to upload the parking app after being in hospital for 5 days and he was so kind and patient and saved us some money. What a great volunteer and so eager to help.
— Gloria
An amazing volunteer greeter assisted us at the front door, directing us to Patient Registration and then accompanying us to the endoscopy unit. In addition to that, at least two volunteers walking in the hallways or at the front door stopped to ask us if we needed direction or help. We know the volunteers have an early start in the morning. We appreciated their helpfulness!

Although it is never great when one has to visit a hospital for a procedure, I had an excellent experience. It started with a wonderful volunteer (at 6:30 am in the morning!) who chatted with me while I waited to be registered. This really helped to keep my nervousness down! Thank you to her as that really meant a lot to me.

I walked into Emergency at about 5:30 AM, doubled over in pain. From then on every volunteer or staff encounter I had during my nearly 16 hour stay at the hospital was wonderful. I was met with smiling faces and concerned for my well being.

I want to extend my thanks to the many volunteers who play so many roles in the hospital, helping patients get to where they need to be with kindness.
