On October 3rd we celebrated our 14th annual Diversity Dinner, welcoming cultural organizations from all parts of Waterloo Region and the surrounding areas. This special night celebrates the many different cultural groups who have contributed to our Hospital through donations, 3rd party events, and volunteering. Each year our dinner is hosted by a different cultural organization and this year , we would like to thank the Hungarian Canadian Club for hosting and preparing a delicious meal for our guests. It was a wonderful way to kick-off Hungarian Heritage Month in Ontario.
Thank you to our special guest speaker, Dr. Asa Ahimbisibwe, CMH Obstetrician and Author, who inspired us all by standing at the podium and asking us to think not about how much we give, but what, and why we give. He told us of his childhood and the adversities he faced growing up in Uganda. He talked about the sacrifices his mother and father made in order to put him through school, and he reflected on how their giving, has provided him with the means necessary to continue that cycle of giving and help others, through telling his story, donating the funds raised from his two books, and using his knowledge to educate other medical professionals. Thank you to those that were able to attend and continue to support the work we do at our Community Hospital, and a thank you to this year’s sponsors – African Lion Safari, Bell Canada and Lerners LLP.
